Words matter; language shapes perception.

The Initiative to Change the “D-Word” has developed a language pledge that promotes the use of respectful, patient-centered language when discussing cognitive conditions.  By encouraging individuals to adopt language that uplifts rather than diminishes, we aim to foster a more compassionate understanding and ensure respect for those with cognitive impairments.

By signing our pledge, you can help raise awareness about the stigma associated with the “D-word” (dementia/demented) and the importance of using alternative language. Your commitment can drive meaningful change, encouraging greater participation in clinical trials and increasing the likelihood that individuals seek treatment.

As a token of your commitment, you will receive a certificate recognizing your pledge, celebrating your role in fostering a more respectful dialogue around cognitive conditions.
